Rodica L asked:

My son’s Xbox 360 got the red ring of death this morning. This is the first time the three flashing red lights have appeared. Does anyone know if it is something we did or is the console just too old? Please if anyone has any information about this let me know, We really want to fix the Xbox 360 as soon as possible.

Well that happened to me. You really can’t do much, so just call the Xbox support line. One of the things they ask you is to unplug and replug everything with and without the hard drive so do that first, although its highly doubtful that it would do anything. I got a new xbox back in a couple weeks, and it works fine.

Exactly what Bryan said. Microsoft realized this problem was rampant, so they included the Red Ring of Death under their warranty, and all you have to do is call them up. They’ll send a box which you put yours in and send it off, they fix it and send it back in a couple weeks. Just call customer support.

Send it to microsoft and you get a new one with 1 month of live as their small compansation to you

Well if you got the ring of death then you should bring it to where you bought it if you have a warranty. But if you dont have a warranty then i think you should just sell it to game stop and just get money because you are not going tobe able to sell it anywhere else. So its up to you or you just have to buy a new 360. Hope this helps and check out the links at the bottom!!! =P It also depends how many GB. there the more Gb. the most they will but it for. Also i am estimating it will sell for about $120 at game stop!

You need to send it to Microsoft. If the console is more then three year old, which it’s not, then it will be free to fix.

    To save you the trouble:

if you have a warrenty send it into microsoft if you dont have one, buy a warrenty cheaper than buying a new one

If it’s under warranty, send it in to Microsoft. There can be numerous reasons that cause the Ring of Death. Often it’s due to hair line cracks in the solder that prevent conductivity. Here is a good tutorial on how to perform the X-Clamp fix. Has worked for a lot of people, if it’s not under warranty, give it a shot.

They estimate that 1 out of 4 Xbox 360 will eventually fall victim to the red ring of death, so it’s definitely not your fault or your son’s. The same thing happened to me, I freaked out when I saw those three flashing red lights. The first time I just send the Console To Microsoft and let them deal with it, I had to wait for 5 weeks, and honestly they haven’t done to good of a job because The red ring of death came back within 4 weeks.

The second time I just repaired it myself, I used a guide of course, and it was very simple to follow. I found the guide through a site that does repair guide reviews it was

That is the best site I have found thus far when it comes to information and tips to avoid the red ring of death. I hope that helps.
