The story: I dropped my 360 on the ground and it will no longer read any discs. I already called xbox support and told them the story. they said they could not fix it because it is considered tampered with since there is a ***** in the casing from the impact. They said I will just have to buy a new one. Is that the only option??

depending on how brave you are, you can replace this yourself. its very simple to do and only cost you about $30 if you know where to look.
the laser in the drive more than likely needs to be replaced.
