I got an xbox from someone who couldn’t fix it and he went out and bought a new one. He already opened it, so I can’t send it to Microsoft. I’ve tried to fix it and got it to run for a while, but a few minutes into the game and it freezes up. The towel trick doesn’t seem to work as a permenant solution.
I’ve heard of a better way of fixing it for good. There is some kind of a pdf document that is being sent to people, but they charge for it. There’s also people who say they can fix it, but they charge too. I’m pretty good at taking stuff apart and fixing it, but I need specific instructions to do it.
Can anyone tell me a good way to permenantly fix my xbox?
MORONS!!! PLEASE READ THE QUESTION! THE WARRANTY IS VOID! THE STICKER WAS REMOVED!
Thanks Ed D. I know of someone who can do it for $60. I just like to do it myself before paying someone. I know he can do it though. Someone else tried him and still has a working system.
To those of you who read the question, Thank you for the answers. To Idiots like The Cuban, I am offering a free class on 3rd grade level reading. The question had all of the details, but some dumbasses can’t read more than 5 words in a day, so they didn’t get to the part where I said that the warranty is not an option.

You can still get MS to fix it but it will not be under warranty. It will cost $140 to fix it. Call 1-800-4MY-XBOX.
You can also try to get some X clamps at home depot and try to fix it yourself but there are not guarentees that it will still work when your done.

Well, I think what usually happens is that the 360 gets so hot that it expands…and then it gets turned off and cools and contracts. Eventually, the expansion/contraction breaks some solders. I would imagine your friend is just soldering those connections again. The towel trick expands the 360 so much that the solder connection is made again, but of course, it will eventually cool and lose the connection. Ultimately, I would think the solder would break again if the root of the problem - the fact that it gets too hot and expands isn’t taken care of. So, maybe if you fix the solder(s) that are broken and get the Intercooler? That way it will keep cool and hopefully keep the solder. Good luck.

lol dont you love it when someone reads just the question and nothing else?
how bout a free site that has step by step pics of the heatsink fix (there are three main causes of the ring of death, but this is the most common)

Yes I know everyones answer is always to send it back to Microsoft, even if you say the warrenty is void. Some people just seem to not be able to read. But anyways I had to fix my 360, It died a year ago before they extended the warranty and i wasn’t paying microsoft to fix they’re problem. I fixed mine using the X-clamp replacement fix. I did this about 5-6 months ago and it has been working fine ever since. Here is a couple of links i used.
Any questions e-mail me. Good Luck!
